Welcome
The Betts Centre for Organ Studies provides educational and welfare support for the organ scholars of the University of Oxford and serves as an intercollegiate hub for all matters relating to organ music and organ research across the University.
Under the aegis of the Betts Fellow in Organ Studies, the principal focus of the Centre lies in providing organ scholars with individual guidance and mentoring across a wide range of academic, musical and professional matters. In addition, the Centre offers a rich programme of term-time events, as well as an annual organ study trip. The John Wellingham Organ Studies Library at Jesus College also forms part of the Betts Centre.
Enquiries from prospective organ scholars are always welcome.
Betts Events
The Betts Centre organises a variety of events during term time. These range from hands-on workshops and occasional masterclasses to speaker events and informal gatherings. Together, these events provide a forum for Oxford's uniquely-large community of over eighty organists to meet, discuss and socialise.
Recitals
With currently eight (!) weekly organ recital series during term time, there is never a shortage of organ music in Oxford.
Wellingham Organ Studies Library
The Betts Centre's John Wellingham Organ Studies Library at Jesus College provides access to a vast array of scholarly editions of organ music, particularly from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Organ Study Trips
At least once a year, the Betts Centre offers organ scholars the opportunity to explore celebrated pipe organs across Britain and the European continent.
